Troubleshooting without risking your saves

A cautious diagnostic sequence that preserves data, isolates one variable at a time and prepares useful bug reports.

Begin with the least invasive check and keep notes. A short, repeatable test is more useful than changing drivers, settings and files simultaneously because you can tell which action changed the result.

Do not delete save data as a troubleshooting step. Steam Cloud is currently listed for the game, but synchronization is not a substitute for careful handling when a conflict warning appears.

Official checks and report path

Use the in-game report tool. Press Esc, choose Report Bugs, describe the shortest reproduction steps and attach a useful screenshot when possible. This is the official Fireshine route for game bugs.

The official 1.0.17 patch notes recommend Steam's Verify integrity of game files check for freezes or crashes after playing an older build. If the game still cannot launch, use the in-game report function or the official community route rather than deleting save data.

Game does not launch

  • Restart Steam and confirm that no previous game process remains open.
  • Use Steam's file verification feature to check the installation.
  • Install pending operating-system or graphics-driver updates from their official tools, then restart if required.
  • Temporarily close optional overlays or monitoring tools one at a time and retest.
  • Check that the PC meets the official requirements and has free storage headroom.

Crash or black screen

Record whether the failure occurs before a menu, while loading a save or after a specific action. Return display options to a known baseline if you can reach them, and avoid stacking several experimental changes. If only one save state appears affected, preserve it and include that distinction in a report rather than deleting it.

Stutter or uneven performance

Close unnecessary background work, observe whether the issue appears in a particular area or during a repeatable action, and change one exposed graphics option at a time. The official requirements do not promise a specific frame rate, so report the exact hardware and context instead of relying on a generic expectation.

Controller or prompt conflict

Reconnect one intended device before launch, remove unused input devices for the test and check whether Steam Input and the in-game mapping are both remapping the same control. Use keyboard and mouse briefly to determine whether the problem is input-specific.

Steam Cloud conflict

Do not choose between cloud and local data until you have read the timestamps and understood which session each copy represents. Stop switching devices while synchronization is unresolved. Preserve available copies where Steam's interface permits and consult official Steam guidance for the conflict flow.

Submit a useful bug report

Official bugs can be submitted through the in-game Report Bugs function. Include the shortest reproduction sequence, what you expected, what happened, relevant hardware and input details, and which safe checks you already tried. Avoid including passwords or unrelated personal information.

Verification note: Support routes are based on the supplied official support baseline; diagnostic advice prioritizes reversible actions and explicitly excludes save deletion.
